Position Details:

Summary of Duties:
The
Assistant Director of Conference Management will be responsible for oversight of administrative functions of the Conference Management unit with the Professional Education department including budgeting, supervision, contracting, long-range planning, and oversight of day-to-day administrative support of activities. This position will serve as initial point of contact for new clients before assigning work within the department, and build on external partnerships including sponsors, speakers/teachers, clients, and vendors.

This position is a hybrid position, working predominantly remotely, but must live within reasonable driving distance of either the WSU Puyallup, WA office or the WSU Pullman, WA office to be able to occasionally go into the office to assist in work needs.

Telework positions will require signing a telework agreement. Minimum technical requirements include an internet bandwidth of 4.0 Mbps for upload and download. WSU will provide other technical equipment determined necessary for telework positions.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.
Experience in conference or event management.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Demonstrated computer proficiency including experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and various software related to carrying out the duties of the position.
Demonstrated systems thinking and ability to focus on how an issue being reviewed, possible solutions have short- and long-term impacts across programs, clients, and administrative relationships.
Experience negotiating vendor contracts, such as venues, hotels, caterers, audio visual vendors, and decorators.
Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license.
Ability to travel, including to manage face-to-face events.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Hospitality Business Management, Business, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Higher Education, or other related field.
Experience developing and managing budgets.
Experience in strategic planning, formulation, design, implementation, and tracking.
