Department Overview
The TECE Governance, Control & Oversight (GCO) team is a dynamic, innovative and diverse team of professionals with a North American mandate to provide partnership, challenge and support on all key areas of governance and control for covered businesses. These include working on complex, fast-paced and innovative project and initiatives delivered by Digital, Innovation & Payments, Next Evolution of Work (NEW) ED&A, North American Customer Operations, Customer Assistance, ATM and Fraud Management, as well as Strategy, Change and Operational Excellence. We also provide consolidated reporting across all of TECE on key governance and regulatory reporting. We continuously partner effectively with our Risk and Control partners and provide guidance, advice and support to businesses to help them achieve their strategic goals and priorities while acting within Risk Appetite and in compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
Job Description
AVP, G&C, Data Governance, will act as both the Hub lead for the Hub & Spoke Enterprise consolidated view of Data as well as have the Spoke oversight for assigned Spokes. Data Governance roles have formal accountability as First Line of Defense roles to ensure processes and controls are in place to manage data effectively within their Line of Business through data governance Functions in alignment to the Bank’s data policies, standards, and strategy. Data Governance team is responsible for some or all the following activities: Identify, measure and monitor current and emerging data related risks in day-to-day activities, operations, products and services within the Business, to ensure activities are within TD’s Risk Appetite and policies.
The successful candidate will lead a high performing team of Data governance and control colleagues and partner with other GCO teams to provide advice, reporting, challenge and monitoring in respect Enterprise Data & Analytics (the Hub) and assigned Spokes (Lines of Business). They will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a wide variety of interesting and novel challenges and to learn and work with multiple businesses in TECE on a regular basis. The AVP will be instrumental in maintaining and continuously improving effective control environment and reporting. They will be able to not only understand detail but also be able to identify and convey thematic issues. Superior organizational and communication skills are very important in this role. They will act as a trusted advisor and partner, providing guidance and support to businesses, but also effective challenge and monitoring on key project and initiatives.
The TECE GCO team is focused on enhancing its maturity and adapting to the evolving environment and strategic goals of the Segment and the Bank. The AVP will be critical in enhancing existing reporting and issues management processes and creating efficiency. As such, the AVP will be a proven leader who can think innovatively, drive change across the enterprise and guide teams on implementing new and sometimes complex requirements. They will enjoy a fast-past, dynamic and innovative environment that is results-oriented. Finally, they will effectively foster strong and collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders is critical in this role and they will routinely meet with a very broad set of partners across the Segment and the Bank, including regulators and senior executives.
Responsibilities include:
Lead and develop a team of Data, governance, risk and regulatory professionals
Identify, measure and monitor current and emerging data related risks in day-to-day activities, operations, products and services within the Business, to ensure activities are within TD’s Risk Appetite and policies
Govern and provide oversight of data under their stewardship, acting as a focal point for data governance within the Line of Business
Ensure their Line of Business the Hub & Spoke (LOB) adheres to data related policies, standards and meets requirements set out by the Enterprise Data and Information Management Policy and Standards
Design, implement, and maintain LOB-specific processes, templates, and appropriate mitigating controls, to support enterprise data policy and standards and ensure effective management and control of LOB data
Ensure data-related activities are compliant with applicable laws and regulations
Provide 1st line governance and oversight on LOB data management activities, including metadata and data quality management, data retention and disposition within BAU processes, projects, programs and change initiatives
Escalate data risks and issues and provide advice and support to business owners in development and implementation of action plans for issue resolution
Job Requirements
Data Risk management, governance or related experience
Highly motivated self-starter with ability to drive change

Develops and maintains strong relationships with key control partners groups including (not limited to) Audit, Compliance, Operational Risk, GAML, Finance and Legal
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to thrive in an environment with a high level of ambiguity; able to adapt to changing requirements and situations with maturity and efficiency
Proven people management skills including experience in developing people and creating inclusive team environments
