Depending on experience, candidates may be considered for the Café Team Member position at either Level 1 or Level 2.
Locations: 1607 N 45th St., Seattle, WA 98103
Rate of Pay: $15.80 (Level 1) or $16.69 (Level 2) DOE. Tips average $7.00 – $9.00 an hour. New hires are excluded from the tip pool for the first five (5) training shifts.
Schedule: Full-time, est. 4 – 5 shifts per week, not seasonal. Schedule flexibility and the ability to work weekends and holidays is required.
Job Summary
The Café Team Member’s role is an integral part of the efficient, enthusiastic team that makes Grand Central Bakery’s vibrant cafes such wonderful spaces to be in. The Café Team Member is passionate about preparing and serving delicious food and drink to a community of loyal customers. The Café Team Member is expected to regularly and efficiently work on the sandwich bar and barista station.
Responsibilities and Duties
Proficient on Point-of-Sale System
Serves bread and pastry to customers while ensuring both meet GCB specs
Makes and serves all sandwiches and all coffee and espresso drinks according to GCB specs- including during a rush
Displays product knowledge of all items on our menus
Maintaining the Café environment (e.g., bussing and cleaning as necessary)
Has a “pitches in” mentality, can be seen volunteering with duties or helping others
Adheres to proper cash handling procedures and standards with a high level of accuracy
Works collaboratively with a team and communicates respectfully and professionally with teammates
Delivers excellent customer service
Qualifications and Skills
18 years of age or older
Ability to read, write, and speak English required
HS diploma/GED preferred
Basic math skills required
Maintains food handler’s card – new hires are expected to have a valid card by their first date of work
Experience with point-of-sale systems preferred
1+ year(s) experience in food service preferred
Must display professionalism and personality with customers
Physical Requirements
This position includes working in a loud café environment with frequent interruption. Café Team Members are required to stand for 100% of their shift; they may be asked to lift and carry up to 20 lbs., and push or pull up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
This position works in a building containing a bakery and is constantly exposed to wheat flour dust and other grain dusts (rye, corn, oat).
