Job Description :
This position is 7.5 hrs per day, 197 paid days per year (including holidays).
In-district applicants, who are current members of the Teamster’s bargaining group, should apply by 3 p.m. on August 1, 2022, and will receive first consideration. Rate of pay based on experience and the Teamster’s salary schedule.
The Library/Media Specialist oversees the library media center, assists staff and students on the proper use of library resources, and manage technological resources available for use in the media center.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Essential Job Functions:

Monitors library budget, implements correct purchasing procedures and oversees expenditures
Assist Principal(s) with requisitions new media center materials
Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and makes media center materials available to supplement the instructional program
Maintains a comprehensive and efficient automated computer circulation system for the cataloging of all media center materials; assists teachers, educational assistants and students on the use of the system
Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments
Oversees media center educational assistants in the performance of their duties
Answer telecommunication system for the purpose of screening calls, transferring calls, responding to inquiries and/or taking messages
Compose documents (e.g. correspondence, agendas, minutes, bulletins, reports, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to school and district personnel
Evaluate situations (i.e. involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
Respond to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required
Monitor assigned activities and/or program components (e.g. program budgets, student records, purchasing, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with financial, legal, and/or administrative requirements
Prepare written materials (e.g. brochures, newsletters, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information regarding school and/or district activities and/or procedures
Help coordinate and assist with online assessments
Ensure that students have proper skyward information in library system
Maintain various fiscal information, i.e. budget, purchase orders, for the purpose of updating information and complying with fiscal requirements
Process documents and materials (e.g. schedules, agendas, mail, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties
Support principal and/or other school administrative personnel for the purpose of providing assistance with their administrative functions
Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
Supervise student workers for the purpose of ensuring appropriate class credit and/or learning experience
Assist the building principal and other staff in carrying out responses to emergencies or critical situations
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications Required:

High School diploma or equivalent, post-secondary desired
Prior job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility; knowledge of the Skyward, STAR Reading, Renaissance Place, eFollett Destiny systems preferred
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background clearance required, cost paid by applicant
Secretarial and computer technology competencies as determined by skills testing
First Aid/CPR Certification may be required

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills: to operate and maintain standard office equipment including use of computer applications, use English in both written and verbal form, use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation, word processing speed – 55 wpm.
Knowledge: of rules and regulations related to assigned school functions, basic budgeting, financial and statistical record keeping, and standard office equipment.
Abilities: to sit for prolonged periods at assigned workstation, work independently, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, handle frequent interruptions, interact with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversation, near visual acuity/visual accommodation and may include lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.
