POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for managing and supervising the MHC crisis team. Provides leadership and guidance to Maniilaq Counseling and Recovery Center (MCRC) Therapists working within MHC and any staff actively working with MCRC crisis services. Additionally provides guidance for the Substance Abuse (CDC) staff and Itinerant Therapists dealing with crisis situations. Responsible for reaching out to meet the behavioral health counseling needs of the people of the Maniilaq Service Area by providing crisis assessments, family and group therapy, substance abuse treatment, MHC consultations and making appropriate referrals to other programs. Works with the Quality Assurance Supervisor to promote accurate documentation and billing of services. Reports to Counseling and Recovery Supervisor.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises the integrated service program staff to ensure the level of care meets the needs of the client and client case files in a manner assuring completeness, professionalism, and confidentiality of all records, materials, and communications meeting all regulations
Coordinates with the Quality Assurance Supervisor to ensure that staff meets orientation, educational requirements, Maniilaq training requirements, and clinical requirements for accurate record keeping, service delivery and billing.
Escorts, or provides for escort services, for mentally ill patients requiring placement outside the region. Continues to monitor patients while in other placements or facilities.
Responsible to assist in program compliance with CARF standards, state and federal licensure or regulations, Medicaid/Medicare standards, HIPPA regulations, and 42 CFR Part II.
Provides direction, supports, mentors, teaches and consults with mental health therapists, substance abuse counselors and behavioral health counselors regarding all aspects of their duties and responsibilities.
Participates in staff meetings, case reviews, in-service training, and professional development activities.
Reviews and directs referrals of clients to the appropriate programs and or agencies to promote an appropriate continuum of care.
Actively participates as a member of the BHS management team and assists in the continuous improvement efforts of the division.
Provides individual, family, group psychotherapy treatment, substance abuse treatment, and crisis assessments. Adequately documents the treatment process and progress.
Ensures treatment modalities and interventions are clear, consistent, appropriate, and culturally orientated and clinical records are timely, accurate, and completed in a professional manner.
Coordinates referrals to and from the program with other agencies and determines need for voluntary and involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations.
Provides crisis intervention services and participates on the on-call rotation to provide crisis intervention on a 24-hour per day basis.
Makes clinical decisions regarding the welfare of patients, including suicide assessments.
Travels to villages to provide mental health services.
Performs court commitment proceedings for patients who are a danger to themselves, a danger to others, or are gravely disabled.
Provides assessments and consultations to medical staff, police, schools, and other professionals and agencies as requested and when appropriate.
Offers education regarding mental health issues to schools, other organizations, and communities.
Provides case management, including making appropriate referrals to community agencies and institutions.
Works as part of a team to provide optimal mental health services which may include making referrals to other Maniilaq and non-Maniilaq programs.
Maintains confidentiality of patient records and treatment.
Job Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, child guidance, or nursing with specialization or experience in mental health. Broad clinical experience. Must have Chemical Dependency Counselor I certification or equivalent, or obtain within 1 year of hire. Ability to work with sensitivity in a cross-cultural environment. Has obtained a professional mental health license in Alaska. Examples of qualifying Master’s level licenses include Licensed Professional Counselor (under AS 08.63) and marital and family therapist and/or has obtained a CDC I or II, FASD Certification and A.S.I.S.T certification or has a Certified Specialty i.e. Couples Counseling, Treating Perpetrators etc. (under AS 08.29). Ability to adjust to conditions in Rural Arctic Alaska. Must be willing and able to travel frequently in small planes.
