Department Overview:
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at the UW School of Dentistry specializes in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases associated with the face and jaws such as trauma, infections, disorders, and cancer associated with the face and neck. Our clinics work closely with residents acquiring their OMS certification and the school’s General Practice program, giving students unique learning experiences like extractions, implant placements, and dental anesthesia and sedation in a clinic setting. Our clinic, Northwest Center for Oral and Facial Surgery (NWCOFS), is located at 6222 NE 74th St, Building 25, within Warren G. Magnuson Park. Position Overview:
The Dental Laboratory Technician reports directly to the chair, Oral surgery faculty and the administrative Director. This individual is responsible for providing laboratory support and instructional/training to the OMS residents at the NWCOFS clinic. The Dental Laboratory Technician is expected to comply with UW-SOD policies and regulations for health and safety, HIPPA, OSHA, and WISHA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Train, teach and direct the work in the dental laboratory for residents at the NWCOFS clinic; control quality standards of the laboratory work performed.
Construct orthognathic splints, implant guides, various acrylic splints as needed.
Take impressions for quick check models as well as for the surgical models.
Aid OMS residents and faculty members in their clinical research projects and with the development of teaching material.
Maintain a neat and orderly workspace.
Design, fabricate and scan maxillofacial and standard implant cases to be sent to a scan center. Duplicate casts, set and wax precision attachments for various prostheses.
Order supplies and maintain equipment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School graduation and four years of experience as a Dental Laboratory Technician, one of which must have been at the Dental Laboratory Technician II level. Training in an accredited dental technician school may be substituted, year-for-year, for up to two years experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in training and supervising work of others
Experience in ordering and maintaining lab supplies
A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
