Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Director, Enterprise Product and Portfolio Management located in New Brunswick, New Jersey with organization and management accountability of the Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) Business Value Service.
The focus of this role will be to lead a team of product and portfolio managers who serve as internal consultants providing both Product and Portfolio Management coaching, training, capability development and support for the organization. The leader and team supports global and regional teams in the delivery of their strategy, products, and projects by ensuring they deliver value to the customer and business.
The Business Value Service that this position will lead is an enterprise, cross-functional service that infuses Google Design Sprints, Design Thinking, Agile, Product and Portfolio Management frameworks in support of ideating, incubating, and scaling strategies, products, and projects to deliver on customer and business value. Develop product and project roadmaps based on experimentations and learning approaches to achieve the desired customer and business outcome. Drive multiple product and project executions by coordinating with various stakeholders (across technology & business) and ensuring cross-functional alignment and collaboration. This is also inclusive of organizational transformation efforts in establishing standard metrics for value measurement across products and projects enabling teams to identify, baseline, and track value delivered to the customer and business via leading and lagging indicator
Key Responsibilities:
The Director, Portfolio and Product Management supports the Sr. Director, EPMO with the following key responsibilities:
Product Management Transformation, Coaching, and Capability Development – Shapes, influences, and owns strategic product management capabilities for business segments and technology leads (VP, Sr. Directors, and their staff). Define strategy and best practices of product management capabilities, including toolkit, processes, engagement model, capability framework, etc. Work with product and portfolio leads across JJT to ensure and support the adoption of best practices (e.g., Outcomes and OKRs), to train and develop capability within the organization, and measure progress for the Technology Leadership Team (TLT).
Lean Portfolio Management: Develop and deploy venture capitalist strategy and framework to institutionalize Agile philosophy and frameworks for faster and more reliable portfolio execution and delivery throughout JJT and J&J Business.
Value Management and Innovation Accounting: Coaching and supporting teams to baseline and track business outcomes through leading and lagging indicators. Embodying the ‘measure’ and ‘learn’ elements of the Build-Measure-Learn cycle aiding the organization to create useful metrics that offer insight into user engagement, product-market fit, and scalability.
Business Model Innovation: Coach teams to establish key performance indicators and measurement planning for new ventures, products, and services, while also defining the business model and business rationale. Collaborate cross-functionally to align business needs and solutions, consumer insights and R&D to establish the strategy, requirements, timing, and budget for driving in-market experiments and pilots to test new innovative concepts and assumptions.
Enterprise Mindset – Cultivate external and internal partnerships that will complement and propel the JJT enterprise product and portfolio management strategy. Work closely with segment/function product management teams to deploy the best practices and advance our world-class product management capabilities. Develop and deploy effective partnership model with all segments / functions to drive higher strategic alignment to expedite global scaling of Business Value service capabilities and value realization. Seek opportunities to develop common frameworks within J&J to drive executional efficiency and consistency in how we do our work across the Enterprise, via technology solutions.
Deliver Thought Leadership: Advise and influence senior leadership (VP2,VP1, and their staff) on the transformation and application of product and portfolio management frameworks and capabilities aligned to the overall JJT strategy. Conduct industry benchmarks and be seen as an industry expert by publishing material, participating in conferences, speaking engagements, etc.
Qualifications
Education:
BA/BS degree or equivalent is required
MBA or advanced business training preferred
Experience and Skills:
Required:
A minimum of ten years of business experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech or Medical Device Industry is required.
A minimum of five years of related agile development, design thinking or lean framework experience
Experience in managing a portfolio of investments and/or products (e.g., digital technology products and investments)
Hands-on experience coaching teams and facilitation
Experience that shows working knowledge of business models and value management
Preferred:
Knowledge and experience of business model design methodology for innovative product development
Knowledge of application development methodologies and preferably have experience with the Agile and Lean Startup methodologies
Demonstrate experience taking an idea from idea through analysis into market launch
Strongly involved in strategic and tactical work daily requiring being able to quickly zoom in and out
Strong relationship management skills to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
Three or more years of people management experience
Other:
This role requires the individual to spend up to 10% of the time in international/domestic travels
