Job Description :
What will I be responsible for in this job? You will assist state Medicaid programs in the provision of clinically and financially sound pharmacy benefits through monitoring of drug expenditures, modeling of the impact of clinical and formulary initiatives and negotiation of offers with manufacturers. Your role negotiates supplemental state Medicaid rebates for our clients contracted through the Sovereign States Drug Consortium (SSDC) and provides clinical and business support to those states related to preferred drug lists. A key component is communication, both written and verbal, of pertinent information to state Medicaid staff, Change Healthcare team members and manufacturers.
What are the requirements?

Years of experience: 3+ years pharmacy industry experience along with experience presenting to States or large health plan clients
Education: BS Pharmacy (minimum)
Physical requirements: travel required is estimated to be up to 25%

What critical skills are needed for this position?

Ability to evaluate clinical data, including medical, pharmacy, and laboratory information available through therapeutic class reviews and regimens
Working knowledge of National Medicaid and State Supplemental Rebate laws, dynamics and contracting
Ability to perform moderately complex tasks in Excel
Written and verbal communication skills to individuals, small groups, and large groups – both internal and external to the company
Executive presentation skills required to present to individual state Medicaid program Medicaid and Pharmacy Directors and their Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committees comprised of practicing physicians and clinical pharmacists/nurses and appointed members

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Analysis: Discrepancies between clinical attributes and net cost of a drug relative to other therapeutic options must be resolved through offer negotiations with manufacturer. To maintain leverage, negotiated offers must be acceptable to most, if not all, of the disparate states in the Sovereign States Drug Consortium (SSDC). Fluctuations in Medicaid rebates, price changes of existing drugs and new market entrants must be accounted for in projections and recommendations. This process is not well defined. With changes in the pharmaceutical market and federal and state laws and rules, it is important that this person is able to adapt in order to meet the needs of the states.
How much should I expect to travel? Up to as much as 25% is expected. Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.
