About Us:
As Ohio’s Secretary of State, Frank LaRose is doing his part to deliver a thriving democracy and a prosperous economy for all Ohioans. In his role as the state’s chief elections officer, he is working to ensure that Ohio’s elections are both secure and accessible. And, as the first stop for new businesses in the Buckeye State, he is assisting entrepreneurs as they receive articles of incorporation for a new business.
What You’ll Do:
The Ohio Secretary of State is currently seeking candidates for a Elections Administrative Office Manager. The duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Under supervision of Elections Director; supervises bargaining unit employees; including approval of time & leave, assignment & oversight of duties, performance evaluations & counseling; organizes, develops & implements Elections Division programs (e.g. functions & duties; processes & procedures on voter registration filings; commissions & certificates; maintains election files; serves as liaison between Elections Director, Administrators & Elections staff in order to convey & implement decisions, solutions & procedures);; assist with Election Night Reporting systems & activities.
Serves as an assistant to Elections Director; supports & maintains Elections Director calendar & schedule; maintains complex, privileged, sensitive & confidential files, records & information; assists with coordinating travel arrangements; prepares, organizes & files office documents.
Assists in preparing text for publication (e.g., Board of Elections directives, advisories, memorandums); research & analyze election related materials, information & programs (e.g., responds to routine &/or complex inquires & complaints, voter registration requests, conference material, County Board of Election files); inputs, reviews, proofs & analyzes data presented in various formats (e.g., spreadsheets; tables).
Under direction of Elections Director; performs non-routine administrative tasks (e.g., independently formulates decisions & judgements & interprets rules applicable to Elections Division); assists Elections Director & staff with program direction relative to Elections & SOS; manages business functions; prepares purchase service requests & billing request forms & supply orders; routes & responds to sensitive & confidential routine &/or complex inquiries regarding responsibilities &/or procedures of SOS.
Serves as liaison between Elections Director, Elections Counsel & Elections staff to convey & implement decisions, policies & procedures of election-related programs; coordinates & reviews various materials related to elections issues (e.g., preparation of briefing, back-up materials & training requirements.
Prepares status & progress reports for Election Division upon request; provides information to SOS staff, other government officials & general public; performs other tasks as assigned by Elections Direction, Elections Administrator &/or Senior Elections Counsel.

Qualifications
Work experience as a paralegal or legal assistant;
Work experience managing line/bargining unit staff.
Elections experience is preferred, but not required.
Knowledge of: Budgeting, management, workforce planning; public relations*; agency policies & procedures (e.g., Elections)*; government structure & process (e.g., Elections)*
Skill in: Equipment operation (e.g., fax, PC with Microsoft Office)
Ability to: Deal withmany variables & determine specific action; develop complex reports & position papers (e.g., policies & procedures); gather, collate & classify information about data people or things & handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public.
Developed after employment.
May require travel throughout the State of Ohio & may require overnight stay. Must be willing and able to secure a valid driver’s license or supply own transportation.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo criminal background check and unclassified background checks.
