Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President & Dean of Student Life, the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life will cultivate a vision for the department that aligns with a fully residential student population and implement strategies to achieve that vision in partnership with campus constituencies.
Essential Job FunctionsThe Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life will contribute to the co-curricular education, assessment, success, and retention of students attending Denison University by effectively overseeing the student involvement experiences within Fraternity and Sorority Life. Denison University is currently home to twenty national fraternity and sorority letter organizations with four councils (NPHC/MGC/IFC/PHC) with 35% of our student population affiliated. This position directly oversees the respective councils, works directly with the fraternity and sorority leadership, and is committed to the recruitment, retention, and growth of the fraternity and sorority community at Denison University. Collaboration with students, staff, faculty, departments across campus, alumni, board of trustees, parents, and outside groups (alumni, national fraternities, etc.) will be key to the success of this position and the Division of Student Life.
Additionally, this crucial leadership role will maintain high visibility and engagement with the student body and campus community at university events, work effectively with a culturally diverse population of students and maintain a thorough understanding of the current best practices in the field of student affairs and an awareness of emerging issues in higher education, FSL, community building, and student learning.
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Vision – providing overall direction, leadership, strategic thinking, and visioning for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life.
Community Building –serving as a resource for Denison University students, alumni, parents/families, faculty, staff, and administration on topics relating to Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Operations and Administration – overseeing the daily operations and administration of the Fraternity & Sorority Life community including implementing departmental goals based on the Division of Student Life strategic plan, marketing and communication efforts, campus and community outreach programs, and departmental budget development.
Supervision – providing supervision, review, support, and professional mentorship to full-time staff and student staff. Coordinate weekly staff meetings, individual staff meetings, staff evaluations, and feedback, professional development plans, and assist with the Division of Student Life staff initiatives when necessary.
Advising – overseeing and assisting in coordinating advisement of IFC, MGC, NPHC, PHA
Fiscal Oversight – developing and managing the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life budget and developing innovative funding models to operationalize the strategic plan.
Programming – developing and implementing strategic goals and comprehensive programs that directly affect the fraternity and sorority community at Denison.
Communication – creating and maintaining communication with chapter advisors and (inter)national headquarters staff through e-mail updates, meetings, trainings, and web and social media. Coordinating efforts and encouraging involvement in educational programming initiatives. Ensuring all published information is current, updated regularly, and grounded in best practices.
Collaboration – work collaboratively with various offices in Student Life to advance Denison’s mission, community values, leadership principles, civic engagement, creative problem solving, and elements of personal and academic wellbeing.
Assessment — evaluating and assessing programs, services, and curricula to match the mission of the college, the vision of the office, and learning objectives.
Serve—Participating with the professional on-call rotations for the University. Managing crisis situations; providing on-call response and reporting concerns. ·
Involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve and maintain our departmental and Student Life mission.

Experience advising fraternity and sorority councils, including NPHC and multi-cultural organizations.
An understanding and appreciation for the liberal arts and residential colleges.
Competency in fulfilling administrative duties and database management.
Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives at once; ability to take direction and initiative; ability to delegate effectively to teammates.
Demonstrated capacity as a fair and respectful leader with a proven ability to provide effective guidance to others.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a strong desire to build positive and productive relationships with students, colleagues, and college partners.
Minimum QualificationsAn earned Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or other related advanced degrees.
Minimum of five years professional experience in Higher Education/Student Life.
Current, valid driver’s license and must be insurable under Denison’s liability insurance policy.
Preferred QualificationsAffiliation with a national/international Fraternity or Sorority.
Physical DemandsMust be comfortable in an office setting, operating general office equipment, including lifting boxes up to 20lbs.
