Job Description :
The Academic Department Chair (ADC) is responsible for overseeing the educational programs including curriculum, professional development, assessment, evaluation, and quality assurance for our K-5 lower school. The Academic Department Chair reports to the Dean of Faculty for Laurel Springs School. The ADC is a virtual position. The ADC may spend up to 25% of the calendar year traveling to attend conferences, year-end celebrations, and to work collaboratively with managers, specialists, coordinators, and teachers in the field.
JOB DUTIES:
Specifically, the Academic Department Chair is responsible for:
Supervising a team of virtual independently contracted teachers.
Quality control related to all teaching and learning practices within their department.
Supporting the school’s live academic help room.
Supporting the strategic plan for Laurel Springs School education and curriculum.
Ensuring the LSS curriculum guidelines reflect both national standards and current educational research.
Identifying and developing data based professional development to best support teachers and students.
Recommending and consulting on the selection of curriculum.
Working closely with the Dean of Curriculum & as the subject matter expert to review and develop curriculum materials.
Working closely with the Dean of Faculty on developing and delivering professional development and training for teachers in their department.
Interpreting and reporting student results on standardized tests to students and parents, and uploading results to SIS as applicable in your content area.
Participating in any accreditation process for Laurel Springs School.
Post department teaching jobs as needed, interview new teachers, and take an active role in the new teacher onboarding and training process.
Representing LSS at educational conferences and associations.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have an advanced degree in education with a strong background in curriculum and instruction, online learning, asynchronous learning, and blended learning at elementary level.
Must be knowledgeable about educational research and educational product/program implementation and development.
Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
Must have strong leadership skills and a keen understanding of the requirements of a for-profit business.
Must have virtual management experience.
Must have had experience teaching in K-12 schools, public and/or private, and in working with stakeholders of those schools.
Must have a successful track record of collaborative educational leadership.
