The maintenance technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and fabrication of equipment for the Distribution Center. 5-10 years maintenance experience in a highly automated distribution center is preferred. This position will perform scheduled preventative maintenance, react to downtime issues – as needed; work with parts handling – removal, reporting, CMMS system and provide on-floor leadership to the maintenance and ops team.
Responsibilities:
Safety: ensure that we are following all policies to ensure safety to individual self, other employees, the facility and the grounds.
Understand and maintain safety program and OSHA requirements.
Communication: Must have the ability to clearly communicate actions, repairs, follow ups, basic training – as well as daily plan and daily updates to facility and ops partners (via shift reports)
Ability to provide superior customer service to the operations team including communication of issues, preventive maintenance, reduced downtime and creative solutions.
Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently.
MHE: Ability to understand and repair material handling equipment including automated retrieval equipment, unit sorter and conveyor.
Escalation: ensure that the workarounds and contact methods are understood and carried out.
Technical skills: Must possess good analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills (mechanical/electrical, basic understanding of controls)
Experienced and/or certified in industrial electrical repair and installation of control circuits, E-stops controls, minor electrical installation of 24v, 120v wiring and controls and knowledge of 480V – 3 phase.
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, electrical wiring schematics, and layout drawings.
Vendors: Ability to work with 3rd party vendors on technical concepts, trouble shooting and creative solutions to downtime related issues. Must be able to interpret, communicate and work with vendors on conceptual issues.
Teamwork: Working co-operatively with other maintenance mechanics, maintenance manager, and director of engineering, operations managers and team members to keep equipment running to support a 24/7 operation.
CMMS/Part Management: Maintain and improve maintenance workshop area, parts inventory, PM system and general facility maintenance.
Order supplies and parts as needed under direction of Management.
Housekeeping: Maintain work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Life Sciences and/or Engineering)
Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt Certification, LSS Black Belt Certification is a plus,
Working knowledge and practitioner of Lean / Six Sigma principles and Project Management Methodologies.
Expert level in process improvement tools and methodologies.
Facilitation skills; Proven facilitator with the ability to manage and lead diverse teams.
Experience leading several LSS projects with detailed project plans.
Demonstrated experience leading small to large projects.
Diplomacy, negotiation skills, independent work skills, strong work ethic and self-starter.
Identifies organization’s strengths and weaknesses and suggests areas and leads efforts to improve upon fore mentioned issues.
Willingness to travel at least 75% (travel requirements will fluctuate due to business needs).
Bonus Points:
At least one (1) successful transformational experience where Lean was used as part of the catalyst and foundation for the change- either in focused transformational leadership role or as part of the Senior Operating team driving the change. Demonstrated impact that translated to clear, bottom line performance results with step-function change.
Formal Lean training from an “”academy”” organization – either through direct consulting experience (i.e. Shingijutsu, TBM) or via organizations with deep, well-established lean operating systems (Toyota, Danaher, etc).
Experience in fulfillment center or manufacturing the particular product materials or product type within the span of control of this position.
Private equity lean transformation experience.
Project Management Professional is a plus.
