***IN-HOUSE TEAMSTER OPENING ONLY****THE PROMOTIONAL PROCESS FOR THIS POSITION WILL INCLUDE AN INTERVIEW AND PRACTICAL TESTING*
This position is located at the Auburn Golf Course.
Perform skilled manual work and/or heavy equipment operation in the construction, maintenance and repair of City equipment, utilities and facilities. This involves a variety of tasks that may subject the employee to heavy lifting and strenuous physical activity.
Employees may prioritize, schedule, direct and review the work of full-time employees, seasonal and temporary employees, volunteers, and community service workers for work projects.
Primary Duties
Employees are expected to perform all of the duties of the Maintenance Worker II classification as assigned. This classification of work occurs in a number of divisions/departments. The job description includes generic tasks that are assigned based on the division/department in which the position is located.
Prioritize, schedule, direct and review work of employees on specific projects as assigned.
Operate and/or drive various equipment and machinery including but not limited to: graders, loaders, backhoes, tractor mowers used to cut street right-of-ways, dozer, street paving machine, street sweeper, and those items identified in the Maintenance Worker I job description.
Perform preventive maintenance and minor mechanical repairs on such equipment.
Maintain and record water system operation; maintain chemical process and perform chemical system repair; maintain telemetry operation and related records.Perform major and minor repair or replacement of pumps, meters, control valves; chemical feed equipment or system components. Maintain production, pumping and storage facilities including grounds, structure and piping associated with such facilities.Take and transport water samples in accordance with state and federal mandates as directed.Perform line locations as requested.Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment or system failures and assure proper corrective actions are implemented.Assist in ordering materials and equipment for the division.Assist division supervisor in the prioritization of work for the division. May assist the division supervisor in developing the quarterly and annual budget.
Schedule Parks building and facilities maintenance and repairs. Oversee Parks safety inspections, scheduling playground, court and signage inspections and repairs. Maintain wading pools in accordance with King County Health Department standards, testing and repairs. Schedule all Parks fence and backstop repairs.
Coordinate Parks irrigation systems installing and maintenance including irrigation system start-up and winterization; backflow testing; record keeping; irrigation system basic design, installation and troubleshooting; water conservation testing of irrigation systems; irrigation supply ordering and inventory; updating all irrigation maps annually; and drinking fountain installation and repair.
Coordinate Parks turf and athletic field management including pesticide and fertilizer application to turf areas; maintaining MSDS sheets on pesticides and related products; maintain related training and record keeping; coordinate topdressing and over seeding program, mowing schedule, and leaf collection; coordinate with recreation staff on tournaments and special events; and check and test field/court lighting systems.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment including mowing equipment and attachments, steam cleaners, booster pump stations, and backpack blowers and other small equipment; changing oil and belts; replacing starters; performing electrical, hydraulic and mechanical repairs on equipment; troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment failure; sharpening, grinding and balancing reels, using reel grinder and/or bedknife grinder; rebuilding equipment as needed.
Manufacture parts for repair work, which may involve welding and/or using a cutting torch.
Perform skilled work in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, concrete work, welding, and general maintenance and construction work.
Work closely with water utility customers in beginning and canceling services; investigate customer complaints relating to service delivery; make recommendations regarding billing adjustments and/or service delivery conditions; read meters as needed; and process of deleting meter books and work consistently on the computer.Monitor job safety; train other employees in safety techniques and safe use and care of tools and equipment.
Compile and maintain permanent division records.
Estimate job materials and costs; maintain cost accounting records.May perform inventory control functions and maintain inventory control system as assigned by a division.
Maintain accurate records of time and materials used in work.
Interact courteously with other employees, utility customers, vendors and the public.
Correctly and safely operate all equipment and tools used in assigned division.
Safely mix and/or apply pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals to grounds and landscape.
Read and follow blueprints and schematics.
Maintain knowledge of construction surveying, reading hubs, cut sheets and using bench markers.
Measure distance using a tape measure or calibrated instrument.
Observe or monitor data, such as reading water meters.
Set up and remove barricades, traffic cones or similar objects.
Maintain proficiency and expertise in specific skills necessary for performing work.
May perform the work of the Maintenance Worker I classification.
Regular, reliable and punctual attendance
Due to internal and external customer service needs, incumbent must be able to work a full time schedule, on-site (appropriate City work sites).
Works effectively under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
Completes work and projects in a thorough and timely manner.
Understands and follows directions from supervisor, posted work rules and procedures.
Works courteously and effectively with public officials, citizens, contractors, vendors, developers, supervisor, and other employees, both in person and over the telephone; assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City and department.

Performs related work as required.

Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or equivalent AND three years of full-time paid related work experience*LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS*
Must possess and retain a valid state driver’s license without impending loss at time of appointment.
If necessary for assigned work, an employee will be required to obtain and maintain a Public Pesticide Operator’s license, Distribution Specialist Certificate of Competency from State of Washington D.O.H., First Aid Certification, Flagging Certification, Forklift Certification, Playground Safety Certification, Backflow Device Testing Certification, Ball field Safety Certificate and/or Defensive Driving Certification, or other required certification or license

Perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions. This may involve physically strenuous, continuous or repetitive movements; skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects; fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism; bending or stooping repeatedly or continually over time; working in small cramped spaces; climbing ladders or steps; walking on rough, uneven ground; and performing other physical tasks as required of the position. Required to sit, talk, and hear; frequently required to use hand tools which require repetitive arm, wrist and hand movement. Occasionally required to stand and reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distant, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Position requires mental acuity to ensure thorough mental analysis of situations in a fast-paced environment. Employee is required to maintain confidentiality of information within the department. The employee may be required to deal with disgruntled individuals requiring the use of conflict management skills. Employee is frequently required to perform work in confidence and under pressure for deadlines, and is required to maintain professional composure and tact, patience and courtesy at all times.
