Description
Under general supervision, performs responsible managerial work involving the assignment and direct supervision of a group of employees with maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, furnishings and equipment as well as building entrances and exterior and walkways.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (
may perform other duties as assigned)
Manage the activities of General Environmental Technicians directly by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines for cleanliness and sanitation and using independent judgment in instances not covered by the guidelines.
Ensures that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting the work of personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet standards.
Develops an effective team by instructing all employees in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance, evaluating individual performances to meet established standards, providing required performance evaluations on custodial personnel and contractors and making recommendations regarding the retention of new employees.
Assists in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendation regarding the employment of applicants.
Evaluates new custodial supplies and equipment by conducting testing of such items and recommending the appropriateness of their use.
Monitors the work performed by janitorial contractors to ensure quality service is provided to city departments.

High School Diploma or GED

Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position.
Employees are required to wear appropriate safety attire in accordance with departmental and OSHA safety regulations.

Alternatively, the work area may be subject to environmental discomfort such as poor ventilation. Loud noises, and/or extremes of heat or cold. The work often requires wearing protective gear that may be uncomfortable. The nature of the work environment may produce moderate levels of stress.
