Job Description :
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Nurse Technician supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as day-to-day stocking, cleaning, and general maintenance of the OR area. Minimal patient care (under the direction of the Registered Nurse), is required in this role. Entry-level position into Medical-Surgical Staff Nursing Care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Properly identifies and transfers patients. Provides positive patient interaction.
Disinfects all patient care devices and equipment related to care between patient uses. Stocks all areas of OR based on PAR levels. Deposits room trash and linen-wearing necessary PPEs. Understands and follows exposure protocol if needed.
Secures and transports red trash (contaminated trash) and sharps containers as appropriate. Replaces sharps containers when full. Helps to clean patient carts and Inpatient beds. Performs general maintenance duties for OR, Pre-op and PACU as needed. Empties kitchen trash as needed. Breaks down and disposes empty boxes as needed.
Obtains supplies from stock room as requested. Assists with unloading supplies in stock room, when time permits. Disperses supplies to designated area, as time permits. Maintains order of Storerooms A & B. Distributes linen as needed.
Transports assigned patients throughout all areas of the hospital as directed, to include lifting and assisting from bed to wheelchairs and back as may be required. Assists with patient transfers and discharges, including returning patient belongings and removing equipment from patient area post-discharge. May assist OR staff in positioning surgical patients after induction of anesthesia. May assist in patient transfer to and/or from OR bed to cart.
Identifies and reports unusual occurrences and/or abnormal findings to the patient’s nurse in a timely manner. Observes and reports maintenance defects that need repair, adjustment, or replacement.
Supports other direct caregivers as needed. Performs all autoclave quality testing daily and cleans autoclave drains daily/cleans autoclaves as instructed.
Performs miscellaneous errands, such as transporting specimens, documents etc.
Performs other patient care activities as needed. Keeps manager informed on key issues.
Supports other team members by answering the phone.
All other duties not specifically assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program and/or seeking an associate’s or bachelor’s degree of nursing.

Certificate/License/registration:

BLS required within 3 months of hire.
