Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

This position will work within Washington State University Extension in Chelan and Douglas Counties to connect area residents to the research and knowledge bases of the state’s land grant research university to provide solutions to local problems and stimulate local economies. Our county-based educators work with partners in local communities to provide educational programs and leverage the broad resources of a major university to resolve issues and create a positive future for Chelan and Douglas Counties and area residents.

This position originates, develops, and conducts formal and informal urban horticulture education programs and in-service training to park and grounds managers for the Chelan and Douglas County PUD, area public schools, golf courses, nurseries, and the general public.

This position provides training and consultation to the WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener program.

This position supports other County departmental requests for professional assessments related to urban horticultural and is available to the Chelan County Commissioners to advise on county horticulture issues when appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, botany, or related discipline. Two (2) years of experience developing and delivering evidence-based programming.
Current Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) Pesticide Public Operators License, or ability to obtain a license within 2 months of hire.
Current Professional Arborist Certification, or ability to gain certification within 6 months of hire.
Ability to communicate ideas effectively through written, verbal and technology when relating to a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated skills using the MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word); Adobe Acrobat and the ability to adapt to new technologies and techniques.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within targeted counties and when necessary, state-wide.
While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020and RCW 46.29.090).
Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
Employment is contingent upon passing a background screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, botany, or related discipline and two (2) years of related experience in program leadership and delivery of educational programs.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team for grant writing/fundraising, curriculum development, projects with colleagues locally and across the state, as needed.
Demonstrated teaching experience.
Bicultural/bilingual (Spanish) experience or capability.
