Lead and direct the company’s Engineering activities, in full partnership with plant management and plant engineering teams, to support achievement of the company’s world class manufacturing objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Automation and Cost Reduction Initiatives
Oversees, supports, and coordinates automation projects and initiatives to improve labor and equipment efficiencies and improve ergonomic conditions for shop floor personnel
Tracks progress of all engineering projects at the manufacturing plants; identifies issues or concerns and supports resolution; informs senior management of progress via status updates and reports
Tooling Engineering and Machine Fabrication
Oversees the design and development of tools for the manufacture of plastic and pulp packaging; supports initiatives to achieve continuous improvement in tooling
Oversees the Machine Shop operation to achieve improved speed and profitability; identifies proven approaches and technologies to increase efficiency of existing equipment and tooling
Capital Projects:
Develops proposals and capital requests for necessary capacity expansions, building and infrastructure development, and other upgrades; ensures requests meet payback requirements
Oversees the execution of large construction projects and equipment installations; ensures projects are delivered within agreed upon budgets and timeframes
Tracks and reports on capital project spending; initiates corrective action on project over-runs
Utility Cost Reduction
Supports the plants to identify and execute initiatives to use electricity efficiently
Establishes a process to monitor the energy usage at each plant; works to reduce peak demand by installing energy-saving systems
NPD Project Management
Oversees NPD projects to ensure achievement of key project milestones and budgets

Works to exceed customers’ expectations in the delivery of costing/pricing, designs, and prototypes
Ensures streamlined and focused Stage Gate process is utilized

Leadership
Hires, directs, and provides performance feedback and ongoing development to engineering team
Establishes an environment which motivates and engages all engineers throughout the organization; fosters a positive work environment and a culture of teamwork

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Leadership and managerial ability demonstrated by progressive increases in career responsibilities; ability to work well across teams and in a matrix organization
Strong project management skills; well organized; demonstrated planning skills
Results orientation; high levels of personal initiative, energy and ownership for success
Superior written and oral communication skills; able to communicate across entire breadth of the organization (shop floor – esp. in a Spanish speaking environment – to executive level)
Strong service ethic; understands and embraces service relationship with internal and external customers
Demonstrated ability to develop creative business solutions; good judgment and decision-making process
Knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma principles and concepts; has ability to apply theories in a practical and operational fashion

Required Education & Experience:
Education-

Bachelor of Science Degree in Plastics, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent

Experience-

15+ years of experience in the packaging industry; experience in extrusion and thermoforming and/or paperboard processes preferred
10+ years of experience in engineering roles and leadership in a manufacturing environment
Experience in project management and team facilitation
Experience in data analysis, change management, and process improvement activities
Experience in a multi-site manufacturing organization; global experience a plus
